@The earlist human habitation of Iwate dates from over 30,000 years ago.@The main exhibits are stone tools, Jomon potteries ( cord-marked pottery ) and iron implements which were excavated in Iwate.@These ate valuable clues to Iwate's prehistory.

@ These artifacts prove that the rice cultivation was already widespread in Iwate by this time.

Deep pot
@ (important culture property / c2500bc / Morioka-city)
@ One of the potteries used during the Jomon period(c10500-400bc). Jomon means the cord-marked pattern seen on the surface of the pottery. This deep pot seemed to be used as a coffin for a baby.

@ The Shidanai-site was where the Lake Gosho is located now. The area apperas to have been a residental area in the Jomon period. The holes around the jaw and forehead might have been for sticking plants or feathers in.

Shakoki(goggle)-dogu,Clay figurine

@ The distinctive feature of the figurine is its eyes,which are very much like an eye protected shakoki used by northern tribes like Eskimo. Usually,clay figurines were made in women's image expecting prospeirty and aboundant harvests.
