Honedera Village Estate Site
Honedera Village Estate Site Honederamura Shoen Iseki [Historic Site] (Ichinoseki City)
Ichinoseki Hondera Rural Landscape [Important Cultural Landscape]

This site gained attention early when comparison with fourteenth-century picture maps of Honedera kept at Chuson-ji demonstrated that the village landscape of this medieval estate has been remarkably well preserved. Such an extant estate and map combination is exceptionally rare in Japan. Kiyohira bestowed this estate upon the Chuson-ji monk Jizaibo Renko to reward him for completing the monumental transcription of the Gold-and-Silver Canon. Renko was also named chief administrator of Chuson-ji’s Sutra Repository, and the estate remained the property of the administrator for centuries afterward.
